Simply put, a hybrid is a mix of two entities – a crossbreed if you will. Well, that’s exactly what the Honda Civic Hybrid is – it’s a mix between a conventional petrol engined car and one powered by an electric motor.

With oil prices going through the roof and no relief in sight, as well as the environmental concerns gripping the world today, the introduction of India’s first hybrid car is very timely indeed. Moreover, it’s another indication that Honda considers India a crucial market for the future. Globally, the face of hybrid cars is the Toyota Prius – it’s the latest accessory for Hollywood stars who wish to project their earth loving credentials as they drive back and forth from their centrally air-conditioned four-story mansions. While Toyota has sold over a million units globally since 1997, Honda is considerably behind at 260,000 since 1999. Nevertheless, with this launch, they’ve taken the lead in India.
