With a true car culture now flourishing in India, grassroots motorsport events are much needed to fulfill the adrenaline rush of enthusiasts. Hyperformance Motosports is a familiar name in this respect, as they’ve organized autocross events in the past – under the moniker of the ‘Race of Champions.’ And whereas the annual ‘International Race of Champions’ brings together the best drivers from all spheres of motor racing, from all parts of the world, this event will actually give you the opportunity to test your skill in a controlled environment.
The event will consist of a drag race, which essentially pits two cars against each other in a straight line. From a standing start, the first driver to cover a quarter-mile (1,320 feet) wins. An autocross, on the other hand, is held on a purpose built course – usually created from cones or tires – to test a cars’ handling and a drivers’ skill. Both events will be categorized to incorporate all makes and models of cars – with no modification necessary. So, whether you want to test your straight line speed, or your skill over a purpose built course – get your car prepped, and put on your driving shoes. The best part of an event such as this is that it’s authorized, and allows you to indulge your penchant for speed in a controlled environment.
The Race of Champions is being organized from the 27th to the 30th of May in the NCR. Those interested to participate can contact Niivit Bhasiin at Hyperformance Motosports at 98101 28896. Be prepared to shell out registration fees to the tune of Rs1800/ for Indian cars, and Rs 2000/ for imported cars. Sponsored by JK Tyre, Indian Oil, JVC, and Slime, the event promises to be an exciting one. JK Tyre, of course, is a force for the promotion of Indian motorsport – not only within the country, but internationally as well, having promoted the careers of both Indian F1 drivers, Narain Karthikeyan, and, now Karun Chandhok. |
