It’s been a busy summer in the world of Formula 1. The F1 circus went from the glamorous streets of Monte Carlo to the frenzy of two North American races in Canada and the USA.

As F1 returns to Europe for the French Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton has achieved his dream of winning not just one, but two back-to-back races. In doing so, he’s stunned the F1 establishment even more – and most notably his teammate, reigning and double world champion, Fernando Alonso.

Hamilton’s been living a dream since his debut in Australia earlier this year, having finished every race on the podium – demonstrating that he not only has the talent and speed, but also the mindset and mental toughness to dominate at such an early stage of his F1 career.

The story of Hamilton’s rise to Formula 1 is certainly an interesting one. He demonstrated his god given talent during his early days in karting as a young boy. As he progressed at the grassroots level, his father, who was an ardent supporter, had to field three jobs in order to fund his sons racing career.

At an Autosport awards dinner over a decade ago, a 10-year-old Hamilton didn’t hesitate in walking up to McLaren team-boss, Ron Dennis.

After introducing himself, he expressed an interest to drive for McLaren one day. Obviously impressed by Lewis, both on and off the track, Ron began funding his racing career shortly thereafter – forming a long relationship that has now culminated into these two wins for McLaren. Ron had the foresight to spot Lewis’s potential long before anyone else, and has supported him since. Lewis, on the other hand, has been dedicated at harnessing his own talent, and has clearly lived up to his potential. This certainly seems like an investment that will pay huge dividends for McLaren in future.

I said at the beginning of the season that it’s a shame for arguably the best driver in the world, Michael Schumacher, to have retired from competition, and that his absence would create a void that would be hard for F1 to fill. Little did anyone realize that a rookie named Lewis Hamilton would come forward and take the world by storm. His meteoric rise in F1 has created a buzz, not only in the UK, his home country, but across the world as well. The void left by the absence of Schumacher no longer seems that vast, Hamilton certainly looks like he has the makings of a multiple world champion.

Since Hamilton’s win in Canada, Alonso’s feathers have clearly been ruffled. He’s publicly voiced his frustrations, hinting that the team have been favoring their prodigy.
