T
he world is our playground. It has been so since the beginning of time, and exploring has similarly been a part of us since then. So there is no daft explanation required to clarify our innate natural character. Motorcyclists are at the top of the modern day natural explorers. We roam the open road searching and exploring; if not for something externally, but definitely for something internal to us. Motorbike manufacturers understand this and so they have been offering the rider with machines that are capable and strong to carry them over any obstacle. But here and now, there is something more.

The British manufacturer, Triumph, has revealed its brand new adventure bike called the Tiger Explorer. The bike is packed with technology and features that bring completely new levels of travel and technology to the adventure touring class. It rewrites the rulebook and has got everything it takes to make your journey comfortable and secure. There’s the advanced chassis with its highly adjustable riding position, the powerful all-new 1215cc triple producing 135bhp with advanced ride-by-wire throttle system, tough shaft drive and switchable ABS as standard. On top of that, the bike looks really tough and sleek – just like a tiger should.

This cross-tourer is something we have taken a huge liking to, especially me, since I am always on the lookout for bikes that can accommodate big men like me, and once I found out what the Tiger Explorer has to offer, besides the superb performance, I simply fell in love with it. You see, the heart of the Tiger Explorer philosophy is maximum comfort and control, no matter what the rider’s height may be. With a low 810mm to a towering 880mm adjustable seat height (utilising Triumph’s range of accessory saddles); plus adjustable screen and handlebar positions to increase the arm, wrist and hand comfort, as well as reducing potential wind buffeting, this bike is purposely made for everyone and anyone.

On top of that the new ride-by-wire advanced electronic throttle system includes traction control for added safety and cruise control for reduced rider fatigue. The traction control system reassuringly keeps wheel slip to a manageable level by reading the speeds of both wheels, along with numerous engine parameters, and adjusts performance to assist the rider in maintaining a safe course. And that’s not all. Set your speed and the cruise control reduces the strain of long highway stretches, as well as optimising the bike’s fuel economy so you arrive relaxed and ready for the next day’s adventure. The Tiger Explorer tells you everything you need to know on a journey. The 2.5 inch LCD instrument pack uses thumb switches, with up/down scroll facility, on the handlebars and features a comprehensive on-board computer. Info provided includes 2 trip meters displaying distance covered, journey time, average speed, average fuel consumption, instant fuel consumption and range-to-empty. Also visible on the LCD screen is the odometer readout, Tyre Pressure Monitoring system readout, heated seat power indicator, cruise control operation information and service interval. There is also an on-screen alert for freezing temperatures as well as a numeric readout for ambient temperature.

This could possibly be the best adventure bike yet and it’s very promising to see this kind of technology being used in motorbikes. So that’s how Triumph managed to pull this off – they just took their engineering brilliance and matched it with the strength and stealth of a tiger and the spirit of an explorer.
