It’s been three years since Brammo created a massive stir around the globe after launching one of the first consumer electric motorcycles in the United States. Capable of reaching speeds of 100km/h, and covering a distance of 64 kilometers on a single charge, the Enertia, as it’s rightfully named, opened the doors to new possibilities for electric mobility.
However, the tremendous pace at which technology’s advancing, and the amount of research and development that’s been done in the past three years, has rendered the Enertia completely outdated today. Therefore, Brammo now brings you a bike that significantly outclasses the Enertia. Say hello to the Brammo Empulse.
This new electric motorcycle looks like a mean street-fighter, and apparently it can max out at a tantalizing 160km/h. That’s a significant jump from its baby brother. The Empulse can also travel a distance of 160 kilometers on a single two-hour charge – another huge improvement. The bike is already available to order overseas in three different variants, each using a lithium-ion battery.
It uses a Sealed Permanent AC Synchronous motor, and has a power output of 54bhp, with a maximum torque of 80Nm.
All Empulse models come with a 12 month limited warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. The batteries are maintenance free, and can withstand extreme temperatures without a problem.
Not discrediting the Enertia, the Empulse builds on the strengths of its predecessor. Brammo have been able to introduce their innovative Digital Drivetrain technology, which enables all models of the Empulse to exceed three-digit speeds for sustained periods. The Empulse is also the world’s first production electric motorcycle to feature water cooling. And with no clutch or gearbox to get between your throttle application and the delivery of torque to the rear wheel, Brammo claims that the Empulse provides the smoothest delivery of power you’re likely to have ever experienced. If this is what the future of motorcycling looks like, we’re happy to see it coming.
The bike is priced quite reasonably in the West. The top-of-the-line model will go for $13,995 (`6.3 lakhs). However, the final cost may be as little as $7,000 (`3.1 lakhs). Since the Empulse is a 100% electric vehicle, customers are eligible for tax incentives in the US. This is a philosophy that we hope to see spreading to our shores as well.
After seeing such improvements in electric mobility solutions, we’re happy to say that electric motorcycles are well and truly working their way into the mainstream market. Bravo Brammo, bravo!
