The Blue Odyssey

Low slung and exclusive, the new Porsche 911 Speedster is the spiritual successor to the original 356 Speedster. A limited edition, this blue drool machine, which is already in production, will have a production run of only 356 units. The Speedster offers many distinctive features over the rest of the 911 range, such as an even more steeply raked windscreen, only two front seats, and a double-bubble hardcover for the soft-top.

Going back in time, the 356 Speedster was launched as a purist sports car in 1953. It featured the same two doors and two bucket seats as the rest of its model range, but the Speedster was a convertible with an extremely small windscreen for a true wind-in-the-hair driving experience.

The current generation features a 3.8 litre flat-six engine, which is capable of delivering 408bhp. When compared with the 911 Carrera S, in terms of performance, this new baby can churn out an additional 23bhp. The seven-speed twin-clutch (PDK) transmission transmits power to the rear wheels, which are fitted with a differential lock as standard. Besides this, standard fitments also include Active Suspension management and ceramic composite brakes. Plus, to ensure safety for the occupants, Porsche has further improved its rollover protection system featured on all Porsche convertibles.

The design and customization visible on the Speedster had been undertaken by Porsche Exclusive – a subsidiary involved in designing various models of the brand. In its 25th year, this wing has brought the Speedster back to life by offering a sophisticated hand finished interior in black leather and body coloured trim. The cabin features interesting designs such as checkerboard patterns in the middle of the seats, as well as body coloured leather side bolsters. To add to the distinctive look of the Speedster, the car also features tinted front lights, black headlight rings, and a black windscreen surround. Besides pure blue, the Speedster is also available in Carrera White.

The Speedster will, undoubtedly, ensure that you not only go very fast indeed, but also that you look extremely stylish in the process. We’d like ours in blue – at the Cote d’Azure!
