Here’s an electric vehicle that can perform on the street, but it costs about one fourth the price of a Nissan Leaf or Ford Focus EV. This two-seater has a range of about 50 miles (80km). The StreetScooter is a project under the authority of over 80 auto component suppliers as well as engineering and electrical companies. All the stakeholders of this project have created a special taskforce to manage the project, which include experts from all areas of EV production and design. The main objective of this task force is to build an EV with a price that is significantly lower than conventional automobiles. Judging on the average commuter’s daily trip, the engineers have designed the StreetScooter to travel short distances. What’s more important is the target price, which the designers say will not exceed $7000. This tiny EV will be compatible with all highway safety laws and will provide a top speed of 74 miles per hour (118km/h). The expected date of production is slated for 2013 in Europe.
