Lexus LX Preview
The Lexus LX is a full-size luxury SUV, and the biggest SUV from the Japanese car maker, that has been in production since 1996. Three generations have been produced, all of which have been based heavily on the long-running Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs.
The first generation LX 450 was Lexus' first entry into the SUV market. Its successor, the LX 470, premiered in 1998 and was produced until 2006. The latest, third-generation, LX 570 debuted at the New York International Auto Show in 2007 and it is this model that will make its way to India.
The new LX 570 has had some upgrades for the 2016 model year, which include a new design, a completely new interior, and more features. But the car is still powered by a 5.7 litre V8 petrol engine that produces 383bhp and 546Nm of torque, but it now gets an 8-speed automatic transmission. A supercharged variant of the same engine was launched in 2015 and this had a power output of 450bhp and 706Nm of torque. The 540d diesel variant was also launched in 2015 and this came fitted with a 4.5 litre V8 turbo diesel engine that could produce 268bhp and 650Nm of torque. It is still unclear which of these engine variants will be launched in India. The 2016 models also get an adaptive suspension that allows for adjustment for maximum comfort or for more aggressive handling, and there are also drivetrain adjustments for more fuel-efficient or sportier driving.
The interiors have gotten a complete make over and are now up to date and feature a 12.3-inch-wide screen display atop the center console of controls that uses the Lexus Remote Touch interface, which is essentially a large joystick with a few buttons that help navigate and select information on the display.
