Volkswagen Polo GTI Preview
Volkswagen will launch a souped up version of the Polo in India. The much awaited VW Polo GTI will come to Indian shores with a 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that develops 192bhp and 319Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.
The Polo GTI will come in a 3-door version and new styling elements bespoke to the car. At the front is a new sportier bumper wit horizontal LED fog lamps and the trademark honeycomb grille. The GTI will sit on 10-spoke black and brushed alloy wheels while the rear bumper will be based off the standard Polo in India, it will have a sportier diffuser with dual exhaust pipes.
The GTI will be based on the top ‘Highline’ trim and will get many features like cruise control, electronically adjustable and folding ORVMs, height adjustable driver’s seat and a 2-din infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity. The seats are finished in tartan cloth and will get an all-black interior with chrome elements. The three-spoke steering wheel will also have multi-function buttons for easier use of the in-car infotainment system.
The Polo GTI will be priced higher than other hot hatches in India like the Abarth Punto Evo. Expect Volkswagen to price the Polo GTI in the Rs 20-22 lakh range when it is launched towards the end of 2016.
