They actually race
these priceless
machines – it's a
sight to behold |

The Monterey Historics and the Pebble Beach Concours are normally held on the same weekend each year – conveniently enough, they're also just a stones throw away from each other, which means that you can visit both fantastic events on the same trip.

The Monterey Historics, like Goodwood, has a very festive atmosphere, and is a tribute to motor racing history. It gives you a chance to see some legendary and very rare machinery where it belongs – dueling on the racetrack, as opposed to being tucked away in a temperature controlled garage somewhere. The fact that the owners of these cars – some of which, like the cars at Pebble Beach, can be worth a few million apiece – actually race them is incredible. It's a testament to their spirit and courage, not to mention the size of their bank accounts.

The Monterey Historics weekend is widely regarded as the greatest historic automobile racing in the world, with magnificent cars, great drivers, a challenging track and a scenic venue – what more could you possibly ask for? The venue is the beautiful Laguna Seca racetrack, which is famous for its plunging corkscrew corner – this is a fantastic left-right bend where the road literally falls out from under you as you turn into the corner.
This magnificent event gives spectators the chance to see some of the most historically significant racecars in the world ranging from sports cars, Trans-Am, Can-Am, Indy, and Formula 1 cars from different eras. It also gives you the chance to see the evolution of the racecar in front of your very eyes – such as the adaptation of aerodynamics and safety features over the years. The Monterey Historics takes you back to a time when racing was less anesthetized, and was more about the connection between man and machine, as opposed to microchips and processors like it is today. |

This 2007 event even featured a 'Race of Legends,' in which a number of highly illustrious drivers of the days gone by – none of who'd lost any of their speed – took to the track in equal cars to battle it out once again. And better yet, it was all in the name of charity. |
