Bugatti Veyron Speeds Into India

The super supercar, the Bugatti Veyron, has captivated the hearts of motor enthusiasts the world over. This maniacal and beastly machine, capable of reaching speeds in excess of 400km/h, is the fastest production car ever made. The Veyron boasts a monstrous 8 liter, 16 cylinder engine that’s mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which helps it transmit a preposterous 1,000bhp and 1,250Nm of torque. The Veyron is so incredibly fast that it can reach velocities that can literally lift the car off the ground – if it weren’t for its ingenious aerodynamics, which keep it firmly on the road even at speeds in excess of 400km/h. While it takes this exceptional car only 2.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100km/h, it needs even less time – a mere 2.3 seconds – to come back to a standstill from 100km/h.

The Veryon is expected to be remembered as the epitome of the internal combustion engine. With the advent of electric sports cars, it’s unlikely that a vehicle as single minded and extreme as the Veryon will ever be produced again.

The founder of the company, Ettore Bugatti – referred to as ‘Le Patron’ – came from a family of artists, and, in fact, had no training as an engineer. Instead, he acquired his technical knowledge and skills through trial and error – countless structural drawings, and his obsession to only accept the best. This speaks for his true passion for automobiles, and this is a legacy that can still very much be found in all Bugatti cars even in this day and age.

Volkswagen CEO, Ferdinand Piëch, made high demands, insisting that the designers revive the heritage of Ettore Bugatti with this new super sports car. Equally challenging were the impressive technical requirements the exceptional serial production vehicle had to meet – a top speed above 400km/h, and power in excess of 1,000bhp. A truly formidable challenge! Yet the Veyron 16.4 unites the dichotomy of elegant form and high-tech function, of grace and power, aesthetics and safety – all in perfect harmony. The Veyron’s exterior styling unmistakably quotes classic Bugatti design elements, but still defines its own modern style. Ettore Bugatti was known to have occasionally made technical compromises for the sake of aesthetic integrity. However, this may be the only tradition that was broken in the development of the Veyron 16.4.

And now, with every exotic car manufacturer entering the country, Bugatti too has joined the bandwagon. You will now be able to buy a Bugatti Veyron in India, but you may have to claim bankruptcy afterwards. The Veyron will cost you a whopping Rs 16 crores, plus options. But that’s not the worst of it – you then have to ask yourself, ‘where can I drive it?’
