   Rohit Bal’s Outlander Signature Collection

The Mitsubishi Outlander has reinvented itself for 2010 – apparently along the lines of Rohit Bal’s Outlander Signature Collection that ‘embodies power, grace, and elegance.’ The face-lifted SUV was unveiled by the designer at the start of a fashion show in the Capital recently. Several car companies are looking at unique ways to position themselves as trendy and up-market – Mitsubishi, it appears, is taking this strategy very seriously indeed.

The biggest change on the car, of course, is the new front end. The front is meant to give the impression of a jet fighter. It certainly does make the Outlander look far more aggressive than before, as the grille apes the look of the legendary Lancer Evolution – a car with which it shares its chassis.

The rest of the car has been tweaked only slightly, with the addition of silver roof rails and HID headlamps. In the cabin, you now get refurbished beige leather interiors, a cool box, and chrome rings that surround the AC controls. For in-house entertainment, there’s still the impressive Rockford Fosgate stereo with 9-speakers for enhanced sound quality. Mechanically, the Outlander retains the ‘All Wheel Control System,’ as well as ABS, and EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution). On board, there’s a centrally located dial that allows you to switch between three drive modes – two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive automatic, and four-wheel drive locked for enhanced off-road performance.

So where does it fit in terms of your pocket? Be prepared to dish out 20 lakhs (ex-showroom) – and, in case you were wondering, Rohit Bal creations are extra.

Most powerful street-legal Porsche of all time

Let’s get straight to the point. A petrol-powered 3.6 litre, six-cylinder boxer engine, boosted by two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry, provides 620 horses, via a six-speed manual gearbox, to the rear wheels. Don’t drool just yet. Putting this power to the ground are tires measuring 325/30 R19, which results in a 0-to-100km/h acceleration time of 3.4 seconds, 0-to-200km/h in just 9.8 seconds, and 0-to-300km/h in 28.9 seconds – with a top speed of 330km/h. These are the stats for the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS. This soon-to-be-released beast of the 911 range will be the fastest and most powerful street legal sports car ever built by Porsche when it debuts at the Moscow Motor Show later this year.

With power such as this, equally supreme braking power is required, and this comes in the form of PCCB (Porsche Composite Ceramic Brakes). Helping keep the car glued to the road is also Porsche adaptive suspension, anti-roll bars, engine mounts, as well as the latest Porsche Stability Management system.

Limited to just 500 units, the new 911 GT2 RS stands out clearly from the 911 GT2 through the lavish use of carbon-fibre-reinforced (CFR) components in a matte-black finish, which helps reduce the cars weight by a further 70 kilos. The rear spoiler lip, made of CFR, is now 10 millimetres higher for extra downforce at the rear. Nevertheless, despite this extra power and performance, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are claimed to have been reduced by approximately 5 percent.
