Audi R8 Spyder debuts in India

After the launch of the highly acclaimed R8 V10 earlier this year, Audi brings the breathtaking R8 Spyder to our shores as well.

Housing no less than the same mid-mounted V10 under the hood, the Spyder offers 5.2 liters capable of producing 525bhp and 530Nm of torque. There’s a choice of two transmission units – a 6-speed manual or an R-tronic sequential six-speed transmission. The R-tronic version is actually 5 kilograms lighter than the manual, which weighs at 1,720 kilograms. The R8 Spyder can sprint to 100km/h from rest in just 4.1 seconds, and has a top speed of 313km/h.

Weighing 42 kilograms, the standard electro hydraulic motor opens and closes the fabric top in under 19 seconds. The roof can also be put down while driving at speeds up to 50km/h. On the inside, the Spyder packs in a punchy Bang & Olufsen sound system, and there’s also a seatbelt microphone, not to mention leather seat coverings that are specially pigmented to handle the harsh rays of the sun.

With the R8 Spyder, Audi has demonstrated that it has no intention of slowing its pace of growth in the Indian market, although at 1.44 crores this particular model is only for a handful of lucky owners.

BMW’s new 6 Series convertible

BMW took the covers of the new 6 series convertible in style on the banks of the famous Lake Pichola at the beautiful Leela Kempemski hotel in Udaipur. And the setting was very much in keeping with this stunning shark-nosed luxury convertible.

The new 6 series has on offer a 4.4 litre V8 engine that features BMW’s TwinPower Turbo Technology and direct injection. The V8 pumps out a maximum power of 407bhp and 600Nm of torque that propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5 seconds – from where it goes on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The 8-speed transmission not only ensures that the 4.4 litre powerplant is always in its vast powerband, but it also works in unison with BMW EfficientDynamics to ensure maximum fuel efficiency. For instance, the new 6 has Brake Energy Regeneration, which is a technology that’s currently used in Formula 1 – it converts the heat and kinetic energy generated during braking into electrical energy to recharge the battery. Also part of EfficientDynamics is Electronic Power Steering and BMW’s Intelligent Lightweight Design.

To ensure the perfect driving dynamics at all times, the 6 series also has BMW’s Drive Dynamic Control, which allows the driver to choose between driving modes ranging from Normal, Sports, and Sports+. All of this technology and beauty will cost you however – to the tune of 95 lakhs ex-showroom.
