Facelifted Indica Vista

It all started for Tata Motors in 1998 with the introduction of India’s first indigenous passenger car, the Indica. While the end result may have lacked some refinement, it was a commendable and courageous first effort. And, as they say, luck favours the brave. More than a decade on, Tata Motors is now a global player with legendary brands like Jaguar Land Rover in its portfolio.

The new Indica Vista was launched in 2008 – a decade after the original, and it was a huge step forward from its predecessor. But the Vista has shied away from the limelight off late, which has been squarely focused on the likes of the Manza and Aria. However, come Diwali this year and the facelifted Indica will vie for your attention courtesy of an all-new front end borrowed from its bigger brother, the Manza.

As our rendering demonstrates, the front end gets a set of stylized headlights that provide the illusion of reaching even further into the fenders. You also get a chrome grille, a la the Manza, which makes for an extremely striking and imposing face for a hatchback. The rear end gets tweaked as well, with new tail lamps and some additional accents. This facelift aims to provide a new lease of life for the Vista before the all-new model is launched in early 2013.

Another interesting piece of news regarding the Vista is that the Vista 90, which sports a 90bhp 1.4 litre petrol engine, is currently undergoing homologation for the Indian National Rally Championship. To have Tata Motors finally involved in Indian motorsport will be a massive boost for the sport. Not only will the INRC serve as a proving ground for Tata Motors and the Vista, but to have OEM participation will also open a new chapter for rallying in India. We can’t wait to see the Vista hit the rally stages, and we can only recommend that the team in charge take some tips from the chassis engineers of the Aria – as it’s actually extremely good off road.

Focusing on road cars once again, Tata Motors has done all the hard work in developing a diesel version of the Nano, but it appears to be going slow in bringing it to market. Yes, Nano sales appear to be finally on the rise, but a diesel heart is just the kind of boost that the Nano needs to fulfill its initial promise!
