Mercedes launches new SLK roadster


M
ercedes Benz India launched their much awaited SLK roadster in India. Priced at Rs.61.90 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi, the SLK 350 is the first to be equipped with a panoramic roof which is foldable. Powered by a 3.5 litre V6 engine, the SLK churns out 306bhp and 370Nm of torque. In fact as per the manufacturer, it can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds.

The new SLK is said to be inspired from the recently launched SLS AMG as well as SL Class. It sheds the cuteness of its predecessor and looks more powerful now. The symmetrically arranged headlamps help in adding character to the front end of this machine. Mercedes is throwing in a lot of technology in this car. Their famed BlueEFFICIENCY will make the SLK more economical. Safety features have always been a plus point for any Mercedes, and this third generation SLK doesn’t disappoint. It comes with features like drowsiness detection system, which helps predict driver’s attentiveness while on the road as well as a parking guidance system called PARKTRONIC.

The BMW Z4 was having it easy till now, but with the new SLK, things should become exciting in the sports car zone.

 
Volkswagen unveils the new Jetta
 


The much talked about Jetta has finally been unveiled. After having launched the Passat couple of months earlier, Volkswagen is now targeting the entry level D segment with the new Jetta.

Priced between R14.12 – 17.86 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi, the new Jetta is based on the VW Golf platform. The exteriors have been inspired from the recently launched Passat. In fact, according to the German automobile giant, the latest generation is 90 mm longer that its processor resulting in an increase in legroom.

The company is only offering one variant which a 2.0 litre diesel unit. As per the specifications, this unit would produce 138bhp and 320Nm of torque. The new Jetta offers both six speed manual and six speed DSG transmissions. To add to this, it comes loaded with eight airbags, ABS and ESP. The other features include leather upholstery, cruise control, day time running lights, rear AC vents, hill start assist and an 8 speaker touch screen entertainment system.

 
Honda introduces a newer Jazz


Keeping in tune with the fast pace of auto trends in the Indian market, Honda Siel Cars India has re-launched a newer version of the Jazz, which features a new exterior look, enhanced interiors and more value-added features.

From the outside, the grille, front bumper and headlamps have undergone subtle changes and there’s a fresh set of 15-inch silver alloy wheels that give the Jazz a sportier look. There is also a new rear chrome garnish in select models, and a new rear bumper.

On the inside, you can expect to find plush beige and black interior in the Jazz S and Jazz Select variants, while the whole model range will get new amber coloured stereoscopic dials and newly introduced rear reclining seats to improve on back seat comfort. Other features which have been added include electrically retractable outside rear view mirrors and the integrated audio system will now come standard with a USB port. Apart from the design and features there will also be an additional colour option available – Urban Titanium.

The engine and performance specs will remain the same but the price of the car has gone up and will start at R5.5 lakh for the Jazz S, R5.75 lakh for the Jazz Select and R6.06 lakh for the Jazz X.

 
Street Hawk - Delhi’s fastest Red Bull Racing Can


With the first ever Indian F1 GP right round the corner, the current leading team of the championship RedBull announced a new contest to generate even more interest for RedBull and F1. Called the RedBull Race Can, the contest allows teams from various colleges consisting of budding engineers to create their own version of a racing car using RedBull cans and taking design inspiration from their F1 car – the RB7, and then race each other to the finish line. The race is being held in Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and of course Delhi and the individual winning teams from each of the cities get to face-off with each other for the Fastest Race Can in the country. At the Delhi round of the race, Team Street Hawk won, clocking in a time of 2.32.51mins and have earned a place in the National finals scheduled to be held in Delhi on the 1st of October.

The winning team of the Indian leg will be given a chance to compete against teams from 24 other countries at the RedBull Racing Can World Finals in Milton Keynes, England.
