Sixth-gen Hyundai Elantra will go on sale in the country from August 23, 2016. Updates include major revisions to the exterior design, interior layout, engines and chassis.
Come August 23, 2016, Hyundai will launch the sixth-gen Elantra in the Indian market. Billed as the 2016 Elantra, the new model gets a complete makeover inside-out while it also comes with new range of engines and a raft of new features and equipment.
Hyundai claims that the new Elantra’s chassis incorporates increased use of lightweight high-strength steel, resulting in a refined and responsive body. Design wise, the new Elantra follows the company’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. Simply put, its exterior now sports a sharper and sleeker look in comparison to the curvy design of its predecessor.
Inside, the cabin design and layout have been completely revamped as well. Given Hyundai’s reputation, expect the new Elantra’s cabin to be feature loaded clubbed with build quality that will be up there with the best in the segment. Feature wise, it gets a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Hyundai is expected to offer two engine options with the sixth-gen Elantra in India. The petrol variants will be powered by a 2.0-litre engine developing around 147bhp and 178Nm. The diesel version is expected to retain the current car’s 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, albeit it will receive mild tweaks. Both the engines will come paired with a 6-speed automatic as well as 6-speed manual gearbox.
When launched, the new Elantra will take the fight against the likes of the Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia, Chevrolet Cruze and the Volkswagen Jetta. Hyundai is expected to price the new Elantra between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh for the Indian market.
