Specifications, features and more details of the more powerful Renault Kwid 1.0 emerge ahead of the launch.
Come August 22, 2016, Renault will launch the more powerful Kwid 1.0 in the Indian market. With the launch only a few days away, the specifications and details of the more powerful Kwid have been revealed. The Kwid 1.0 will come fitted with a 999cc engine, albeit only with a five-speed manual gearbox. AMT will be added to the range at a later stage.
The 999cc powering the Kwid 1.0 is a 3-cylinder petrol unit that develops 67bhp @ 5,500rpm along with a peak-torque of 91Nm @ 4,250rpm. This engine has a claimed fuel efficiency of 23,01km/l. The smaller capacity Kwid with 800cc motor has a claimed fuel economy of 25.17km/l.
Renault will offer the Kwid 1.0 only in the top two trim levels – RXT and RXT (Option). This means the car will have an exhaustive feature list. Some of the highlights include a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth telephony, front power windows, central locking, remote keyless entry, dual-tone dashboard, passenger ORVMs, fog lamps, etc. Driver airbag will be optional, although ABS has been given a miss yet again.
The Renault Kwid 1.0 will compete against the likes of the Maruti Suzukii Alto K10 and Hyundai Eon 1.0. Given the popularity and success of the original Kwid in the market, the Kwid 1.0 is also expected to do well. This one, however, will be targeted at customers who seek a little more performance from their cars. Prices of the new Kwid 1.0 will be revealed on the launch day. Expect it to be priced between Rs 3.80 lakh – Rs 4.0 lakh.
We are currently in Chennai to drive the Kwid 1.0. Stay tuned to autoX for the first drive review to know how much of a difference does the new motor make in the Kwid.
