| Assurance from Goodyear |
 |
We’ve mentioned before that we’re big fans of the Goodyear NCT5 tires, as they provide a good combination of grip, comfort, durability and value for your daily motoring needs. It’s no wonder, then, that those tires were fitted by so many OEMs right from the factory. Well, Goodyear have now replaced the NCT5 with an all new tire, known as Assurance – and here’s why.
The Assurance tires have a special tread pattern that Goodyear refer to as ‘waffle blades,’ which ensures that the grooves effectively extract water from between the tire and the road surface, while also providing maximum traction in the dry. The central rib provides better turn-in response, while the solid tread blocks provide good lateral grip – meanwhile, the tread has been specially designed to specifically reduce braking distances in the wet. |

Moreover, like many performance tires nowadays, the tire consists of a special compound of silica, which is chemically bonded with the rubber polymers for improved grip in the wet. In fact, even the sidewall is reinforced with silica since it bonds the overall compound more effectively, which means the tire is more resistant to cuts and tears – and, as you’re aware, a cut in the sidewall of a tubeless tire often renders it completely useless. Moreover, for added durability, the construction of the tire even consists of Kevlar, which is a lightweight material that’s five times stronger than steel, and is often used in bulletproof vests and body armour. We’ve seen Kevlar used in the construction of racing cars and supercars in the past due to its combination of strength and light weight, and now you can have it in your next tire as well. Lighter weight is important as well – because the lighter the tire, the better the fuel economy due to a reduction in all-important unsprung weight.
The new Assurance tires are undoubtedly suited to Indian conditions, and come in a range of sizes to fit 14, 15 and 16-inch rims – making them suitable for your premium hatch, your D-segment saloon, and even your multi-purpose vehicle. |
