The Lamborghini Murciélago is a super sports car of menacing character and brutal power. At its presentation in 2001, it opened a new chapter for the Lamborghini brand with state-of-the-art technology and outstanding product quality. And it did it with a new and modern, but still timeless, design philosophy.
The Lamborghini Murciélago is by far the most successful Lambo 12-cylinder of all time. It is also one of the most stunning and successful super sports cars ever, and that guarantees it an eternal spot in history. But, sadly, all good things must come to an end – and thus, the Murciélago too has reached the end of its production life.
At the headquarters of the raging bull, in Sant’Agata Bolognese, the last Murciélago left the production line on May 11, 2010. Dressed in ‘Arancio Atlas’ paintwork, the LP 670-4 Superveloce proudly bore the production number 4,099 – a number that stands testimony to the impact of the Murciélago in the elite world of super exotics.
The end of production, however, was only recently celebrated at the Lamborghini factory. And to commemorate the event, there was a special exhibition of the most iconic V12 cars in Lamborghini’s history – followed by a parade unlike any other in Sant’Agata. Super sports cars like the 350 GT, the Miura, the Countach, and the Diablo, escorted a Murciélago SV during a symbolic ‘last drive’ out of the gates of the Lamborghini factory.
The final car has been delivered to a customer in Switzerland. Even though many sports car fans around the world are sure to mourn the passing of the Murciélago, Lamborghini is ready to start the next chapter in the story of the super sports car with the introduction of its successor in 2011. So, get ready to welcome the arrival of a new automotive legend.
