Mercedes Celebrates Its 125th Birthday

125 years after Carl Benz filed patent no. 37435 for a “vehicle powered by gas engine” at the former Berlin Patent Office in 1886, Daimler AG is celebrating the anniversary of the motor car. On 29 January 2011, the car maker invited international guests from the automotive industry, business and society to the World of Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart for a ceremonial act. The event celebrated the patent’s publication and marks the start of an action-packed anniversary year, with all sorts of activities revolving around the motor car’s 125th birthday.

Approximately 1,400 invited guests were hosted by the inventor of the automobile at the Mercedes-Benz World in Stuttgart, with guests of honor including the German Federal Chancellor, Dr. Angela Merkel. The event not only paid tribute to the birth of the automobile, but simultaneously recognized 125 years of Mercedes-Benz operations in innovation. International guests from the automotive industry and the fields of politics, business, sports, society and the media, as well as members of Daimler’s Board of Management, Supervisory Board and many Daimler employees, attended the event.

The anniversary celebrations at the Mercedes-Benz World mark the official start of the jubilee year 2011, which Daimler has given the motto “125 years inventor of the automobile.” The Mercedes-Benz brand on the other hand has given the year the motto “125 Years of innovation.” Numerous events connected with the 125th anniversary of the automobile are expected to take place this year.

Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, emphasized the importance of the automobile and also mentioned the importance of going green stating that, “If Daimler and Benz were still alive today, they would advise us to make green cars even more fascinating and fascinating cars even greener. Only attractive innovations are effective innovations.”

We are thankful to the pioneers of the automobile revolution and we wish them all the best for the next 125 years ahead.
