The opening leg of the 2017 Maruti-Suzuki Dakshin Dare that flagged off in Bengaluru yesterday is done and dusted. And despite the way looking clear for heavy favourites from the TVS Racing team and Suresh Rana in the two and four wheel classes, respectively, some unexpected names top the provisional leaderboard.
Roads outside the city of Chitradurga was the scene of the first running of competitive stages of the ninth edition of the Dakshin Dare Rally.
In the Ultimate Bikes category, Sanjay Kumar leads the factory TVS Racing duo of R Nataraj and Tanveer Abdul Wahid while Samrat Yadav leads Sandeep Sharma and Suresh Rana in Ultimate Cars
The Ultimate Cars class saw early problems for Sanjay Aggarwal whose right-rear tyre and wheel got ripped off his Grand Vitara as he pushed in order to make up for the disappointment of not winning the Desert Storm earlier this year. Philipos Matthai also crashed out early while Suresh Rana suffered a puncture in two of the three special stages of the day.
Today saw the rally run on a 45.09km stage that was repeated two more times in order to make up the day’s tally of competitive running.
The fast stages that were strewn with loose rocks made the going tricky for both two and four wheelers.
The rally will continue to run in Chitradurga on the 18th.
