Jeep Compass Preview
After waiting for almost three years, the Jeep brand finally entered the Indian market last year. They stepped in with the introduction of the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee SRT. This year, the American SUV maker will expand its portfolio with the launch of its smallest SUV, Compass.
At 4,394mm in length, 1,647mm tall and 1,874mm wide the Compass will be roughly the same size as the recently launched Hyundai Tucson. With regards to its design, the Compass looks like a scaled down version of the Grand Cherokee. Up front, the headlight and the grille look identical to its larger sibling as do the squared wheel arches. Other details include a lot of chrome accents al around and LED tail lamps.
The Compass is built on the same platform as the Renegade, but its wheelbase is marginally longer, allowing it to create more space on the inside. The India-spec Compass will come with a dual-tone dashboard and metal-finished detailing for contrast. Interior comfort is expected to be impressive, with well bolstered seats and good under thigh support. In terms of features, it comes with button start, panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, Terrain select and more.
At the heart of the Compass is the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel pumping out 170 horses. This unit will come mated to a manual as well as an automatic transmission. There might also be a 1.4-litre petrol on offer. This will be the same 140bhp unit working force on the Abarth offerings.
The Jeep Compass is likely to be launched in India by mid-2017. When launched, it is expected to be priced in the Rs 18-25 lakh mark.
