Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Editorial Review
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz was first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in Greater Noida and launched in India later in the year. The Ciaz is Maruti Suzuki’s offering in the mid-size sedan segment and takes on the segment favourite Honda City quite well. The Maruti Ciaz has conservative styling to appeal to a wider customer base. In doing so it has a quite a traditional sedan profile that is easy on the eyes. Smooth lines flowing all around, a chrome front grille and projector headlamps give it a very sober and upmarket look. There is also an optional rear spoiler that blends well with the car’s styling. Top end Maruti Ciaz Alpha models get 16 inch alloys with wider profile tyres while Zeta models of the Ciaz get 15 inch alloys and Ciaz Delta and Sigma variants get 15 inch steel rims with wheel caps.
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is quite a long car, as a result there is plenty of cabin space for front and rear seat occupants. Higher end variants get leather upholstery while the RS model gets all-black interiors unlike the dual-tone theme of the standard car. The Maruti Ciaz comes packed with equipment which includes the brilliant CarPlay touchscreen infotainment system with voice commands and satellite navigation. Other equipment highlights include rear view camera, rear parking sensors, keyless entry and engine start / stop, rear sun blind, electric folding ORVMs, auto dimming IRVM and more. Safety features in the Maruti Ciaz include anti-lock brakes and dual front airbags.
Maruti Ciaz engine options include a 1.4 liter petrol engine with the choice of a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz petrol has a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 20.73 km/l for the manual model and 19.12 km/l for the automatic model. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz diesel is powered by a 1.3 liter engine and comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox only. The Ciaz diesel has a class leading efficiency figure of 26.21 km/l. This is also courtesy a mild hybrid system featuring power assist and engine start / stop system which is standard on the Maruti Ciaz diesel.
Because of the efficiency oriented powertrain, the Ciaz has very linear power delivery and is designed to be a comfort oriented car for cruising around town and on highways, the Ciaz’s light clutch and gear shifts ensure a comfortable drive. Its practicality quotient is not only enhanced by plenty of cabin space but also by a generous 510 liters of boot space.
All in all, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is a practical, fuel efficient, comfortable and well equipped car that is a very attractive offering in the mid-size sedan segment.
