Maserati Levante Preview
Earlier this year, Maserati announced that its new SUV, Levante is all set to come to India in early 2017. When the car goes on sale next year, it will initially be offered only in the diesel variant. This unit makes peak power of 271bhp from a 3.0-litre V6. The diesel comes mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Those looking for better performance will have to wait for the petrol Levante to be launched. While the gasoline Levante is a 3.0-litre V6 unit too, it comes in two states of tune – 424bhp and 325bhp. The Italian car maker also said that it is likely to add the twin-turbo V8 powered Levante at a later stage.
All trims of the Maserati Levante will come with air-suspension, and a torque vectoring system that has been developed to increase driving pleasure. In terms of features, all variants will come with leather upholstery, a large touch-screen infotainment, 18-inch wheels on the lower spec variants and 19-inch ones on the higher models.
In the looks department, the Levante is typically Maserati with the bold vertically slat grille and the sleek swept back headlights. The bonnet and the brawny rear fenders give the Levante an aggressive stance. The quad-exhaust tips and the GranTourismo inspired tail lamps makes the rear look sporty. Basing it on the Quattroporte and Ghibli platform has allowed the engineers to equally distribute weight at the front and the back thereby giving it the lowest centre of gravity in its class.
When the car is launched next year, expect it to be priced around the Rs 1.25 crore mark brining it in close competition with SUVs like Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5M and the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63.
