Skoda India is currently busy prepping the stage for the launch of the Rapid facelift on November 3, 2016. The refreshed version of the mid-size sedan will come with a couple of updates on the inside-out, along with some minor improvements in the powertrain. Here’re the four key highlights of the new model,
- Design: Skoda has given the Rapid a comprehensive makeover on the outside in the new model. The nose of the Rapid has been completely redesigned and its design is now more in line with the bigger cars of the family. Updates include a new front grille with vertical slats, sleek headlamps, a wider bumper and large fog-lamps. The side profile remains unchanged while the rear end will also be more or less the same as the outgoing car.
- Engine & Gearbox: The Skoda Rapid facelift will retain the current set of diesel and petrol powertrains. This means the petrol version of the car will come powered by a 1.6-litre in-line four-cylinder engine developing 103bhp and 153Nm, paired to either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic. The 1.5-litre in-line four-cylinder turbo diesel is expected to come with the uprated tune of 108bhp/250Nm – similar to the Ameo diesel. The diesel version will be offered with a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic.
- Features: The current Skoda Rapid is one of the best equipped cars in its segment, and it’s going to be a similar story with the updated model. Among some of the highlights, the new Rapid will come with cruise control, automatic rain-sensing wipers, automatic air-conditioning, rear camera, etc. Additionally, the new Rapid will come with a touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink connectivity system.
- Price: At present, the Skoda Rapid is priced between Rs 8.02 lakh and Rs 12.32 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Expect the facelift to be priced within the same bracket. The Skoda Rapid will compete with the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, etc.
