Images of the final production version of the next-generation Polo have surfaced online prior to the car’s official reveal.
After an eight-year run, Volkswagen is set to replace the fifth-generation Polo with a brand new one. The Volkswagen Polo Mk6 is scheduled for its official unveil later today, however, images of the final production car have already been leaked online just hours before.
The images specifically reveal the Polo Mk6 GTI and R models, while the standard Polo was spied on test undisguised recently as well. What we gather from the images is that the styling of the new Polo has a more mature look with an evolutionary design, however, the inspiration from the latest generation Golf is hard to miss.
The fifth generation Polo was built on Volkswagen Group’s AO5 (PQ25) platform. The new Polo is now based on the MQB platform. This suggests that the sixth-gen Polo is now longer, and wider with a longer wheelbase compared to the car it replaces. Official numbers are still to come, however, some reports claim it will be longer than four-metres.

Volkswagen is expected to offer the latest generation of petrol and diesel engines with the new Polo. The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder and 1.4-litre, four-cylinder TSI engines in different tunes would be offered as petrol options. While the 1.6-litre, four-cylinder TDI will be offered as a diesel alternative.
For the Indian market, the launch of this particular version of the Polo would be a bold move by VW. Given the choice of engines and dimensions of the car being larger that its predecessor, the Polo Mk6’s India arrival is questionable as it won’t meet the sub-4-metre bracket, and hence a more premium pricing. However, Tata Motors with Skoda Auto (under the aegis of the Volkswagen Group) have partnered together to develop next generation cars for emerging markets. It is possible that for the Indian market, Volkswagen may launch an alternative based on this project to meet the demands of Indian consumers.
